Winter Program

January 5, 2016

Dear Families,

We hope you had a wonderful holiday and we wish all of you a happy New Year!

It’s January and that means it’s Winter Program time. As many of you already know, the Rivendell Recreation Council has changed this year’s ski/skate program. Due to higher costs and availability, skating has been canceled, leaving many more students at our schools during winter program--only 15 students at Westshire and 57 students at Samuel Morey are skiing/snowboarding.

After much discussion with interim superintendent, Mike Harris, we have decided to hold a regular school day on Thursdays. Instead of attending Winter Program, students will stay in classes and use the time for academics. Skiers and snowboarders will still be dismissed at around noon and all other students will be dismissed at 1:45. At 1:45, Visions will begin and teachers will prepare for their 2:30 professional development time.

This Thursday ski program has already been canceled so all students will be in classes until 1:45. When the Rivendell Rec Council cancels the program, students are expected to stay at school until the usual dismissal time. Rivendell Rec makes the decisions about cancelations based on the weather conditions and any questions about the skiing/snowboarding program should be addressed to them. If the program is cancelled, Rivendell Rec will send families an e-mail at least a day before the cancellation and they will let the school administrative assistants know as well.

If you need any additional information, please contact the Rivendell Rec Council or your school’s principal. Thanks for your understanding and support.
