A Friday Hello from Mrs. MacQueen

October 2, 2015

It’s almost hike time! Since the beginning of Rivendell, the Cross Rivendell Trail has been used as an outdoor classroom and a place of learning. Tomorrow, our entire school will once again hike a section of the trail, heading west this year, to the end of the trail at Flagpole Hill in Vershire. The hike measures about 2.2 miles round trip. Along the way, we’ll take time to stop for snacks and discuss our natural surroundings. When we reach the summit, we’ll break for lunch, pictures, games
and fun activities. Please join us for this annual WES community hike!

Tentative schedule

  • 9:15 a.m. - CHAPERONE MEETING IN THE GYM
  • 9:30 a.m. - BUSSES LOAD AND LEAVE WES
  • 10:00 a.m. - BEGIN 1.1 MILE HIKE TO THE TOP OF FLAGPOLE HILL
  • 11:30-12:30 - LUNCH AND GAMES
  • 12:30 - ALL SCHOOL PHOTO
  • 12:45 p.m. - LEAVE VIEWPOINT AND HIKE BACK TO TRAILHEAD
  • 1:45 p.m. - LOAD BUSSES TO RETURN TO WES

We will make adjustments to the schedule based on weather conditions. Students must dress appropriately for the weather. They should wear comfortable shoes, broken in hiking boots or sneakers with heavy socks. Also, each student should bring a water bottle and a backpack that he/she can carry. Fruit will be provided for snack and bag lunches are available through the lunch program.
