A Friday Hello from Mrs. MacQueen

September 25, 2015

On Monday we welcomed Brian and Maggie Stoudnour for a special presentation. In two weeks, Brian will embark on an amazing adventure to the base camp on Mount Everest to awareness and funding for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Duchenne is a genetic disease where children lose muscle strength. For children with Duchenne, it’s like walking around with bricks on their legs and feet. The 80 mile trek Brain will make with 8 other people, including 2 documentary film makers, will raise funds to help scientists and other doctors find a cure for Duchenne. So far, the team has raised more than $20,000.

At WES we are connected to Duchenne because Maggie and Brian’s son is here at WES and was diagnosed with the disease 2 years ago. At the presentation the WES staff and students decided to help with the fundraiser by collecting loose change. We have started a “Duchenne Fund,” in the office. If you are interested in helping, you may send donationsto the office or have your child bring it to us so they may add it to our school-wide collection jar.
