Happy Monday everyone!! I was out Thursday and Friday so I am sending the newsletter home today. Thursday I attended a workshop on the SBAC which is the new assessment based on the common core standards that students in grades 3-8 and 11 will take this spring. This assessment is a computer assisted assessment. That means that the entire assessment is computerized. This will be quite a change for our students and we will give them a chance to practice some test questions on the computer before the actual assessment.

On Friday Mrs. MacQueen and I attended a Vermont Rural Partnership meeting. Westshire and Samuel Morey have been part of this organization for quite a few years now. The organization tries to connect small rural schools. They also support the schools with grants for school and community based projects. We have used the grants for our 250th Celebration and natural playscapes area. This year we hope to write the grant to support class gardens.

Vermont Rural Partnership is also very interested in student voice. A.J. DeBois, Cora Day and Adele Tilden attended the meeting with us on Friday. They made a poster to highlight how Samuel Morey gives voice to students, fosters community connections and place-based learning. They were a wonderful addition to the other students and schools that attended.
