Now in our 4th year, Visions afterschool programs at Rivendell are funded primarily by a 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant received in 2004. We run programs 4 days a week at Westshire for Grades K-5, at Samuel Morey for grades 3-4-5, and at the Middle School in Rivendell Academy. Visions provides a safe, supervised, nurturing space for students where they can get support completing homework, and have the opportunity to socialize with friends as they participate in a range of fun activities. At all sites, the programs include a snack and stretch break, supervised homework time, and fun opportunities to learn new skills, explore hobbies and crafts, and engage in recreational activities. Community instructors and volunteers teach hobbies and skills such as cooking, Spanish culture, woodworking, puppetry, gardening, and Junior Achievement. Other classes led by school staff include knitting, first aid/CPR, mountain biking, theater, video-making, newspaper/publishing, French, Outdoor Explorers, and more! Each site has a coordinator, and several paid staff members. Special events, such as field trips to the Montshire Museum, apple-picking, and swimming are also arranged. Students are welcome to attend 1 day a week, or every day, according to their interests and needs, and a late bus is available for transportation to central locations in each town around 5:30 each day.
