Competitive athletics play an integral part in the educational programs at Rivendell. The challenges associated with competition create learning experiences for all athletes.
A player’s drive, determination, confidence, mental toughness, and emotional control are tested daily. The educational value of athletics lies in how the athlete copes with these challenges. High quality leadership is a must. Coaches stress commitment, dedication, and hard work and work closely with the players as they face these obstacles. With good leadership, athletes will learn self-discipline and self-motivation, and develop good sportsmanship in both winning and losing.
It is our hope that athletes are taught a formula that can be applied to real-life situations: They learn to plan, prepare, perform, evaluate, and try again. Our teams play to win, but winning is only a by-product of hard work, good teamwork, respect, and good sportsmanship, which are our focus.
